[1st ed] Sappho Was a Right-On Woman: A Liberated View of Lesbianism (Inscribed)
First edition of this pathbreaking study of lesbianism—the first book written by women—by lesbians—about themselves and their struggle. Co-authored by Sidney Abbott and Barbara Love, both activists in the Women’s and Gay Liberation Movements, and published by Stein and Day in 1972. 8vo, hardcover with dust jacket, 251 pages including a bibliography. Warmly inscribed and dated (1974) on the FFE by both authors to Sibyl Harriet Landau, a New York City lawyer, Assistant District Attorney (1965-1972) and educator involved in civil rights, animal rights, feminist, and lesbian causes and lecturer on rape, sexuality and the law. With a postcard laid in from Love to Landau anticipating Landau’s birthday celebration and alluding to the IWY (International Women’s Year) convention that Love and Abbott would be attending in the interim. Light bumping and rubbing to extremities. Minor staining to textblock. Light rubbing to dj, with bumping and chipping to spine ends and front cover. A nice association copy. Highly uncommon thus.
