Vintage Grasscloth Sample Book
Book of hand-made Japanese grasscloth samples, imported by the Renverne Corporation of New York City circa 1960’s. Includes thirty-six 3.25” x 5.25” samples along with an introduction and price list fanning out in a small octavo booklet with stiff pictorial wraps and a fastener in the upper left corner. Samples differ in color way and weave pattern. Pitched as a wall covering suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Per the introduction, “genuine grasscloth being primitively hand-made and hand-colored, contains certain distinguishing and desirable inaccuracies which must be considered part of the product.” Bending, rubbing and bumping to top cover; minor fraying and chipping to samples consistent with their hand-made and inherently fragile character. All samples clean and bright.
